Editorial: Pakistan's G-24 role

Why it matters

G-24 is a group (team) of poor (less rich) countries. Pakistan is now its chair (leader).

  • Main point: Pakistan can speak for poor countries. It can ask for fair world money rules.
  • Rich countries get cheap loans. Poor countries pay high interest (extra money on loans).
  • Pakistan wants easy loans (with low interest), less debt (money owed), and fair trade rules.
  • Poor countries are not weak. They can drive (lead) world growth.

Oil and gas storage tanks
Oil and gas storage tanks · Image: industrialinfo.com

Opinion: Storage deficit (Srraa Tahir)

Why it matters

Pakistan buys most gas (LNG, a fuel for power) from Qatar. The ships pass through the Strait of Hormuz (a sea road).

  • Main point: Pakistan has almost no oil or gas storage (tanks to keep extra fuel). This is risky.
  • This year the strait closed on Feb 28. Gas supply fell, and prices rose fast.
  • Gas storage means saving extra gas in old empty fields (old gas areas) for hard days.
  • The first storage site will cover only 11–12 days of gas use (total, one site). Officials say one month is needed.
  • The state (government) need not build the tanks. It must write simple rules and give licences (permits) fast.

Editorial: Learning from polio

Why it matters

Polio is a virus (germ). It can make a child lame (unable to walk). Pakistan still has it.

  • Main point: 8 children caught polio this year (total, year 2026). The programme (plan) must learn from each case.
  • 6 of the 8 cases were in KP (a province).
  • A new vaccine drive (big medicine-giving round) runs Nov 2–8. It aims at 24 million children (total, one drive) in 97 districts (areas).
  • Health teams must ask: was the child missed before? Was the dose (shot) incomplete? They must share the answers with the public.
